HOLIDAY POWER

I trust all had a happy Thanksgiving as did I.   Kind young neighbors surprised me with a dinner plate plus pie and some creative miniature turkey treats from holiday food they had prepared for their several day visit to family.    This was so generous and appreciated as I had not planned to cook, but had some deli items I had purchased.

Life had been a bit complicated the preceding week and is only partially resolved now.  I do have electrical power from an upgraded system, but there’s more to address.

Have you ever noticed that house issues usually occur at the end of a week, on a weekend and/or around a holiday – that what may appear to be a relatively simple problem has an uncanny way of morphing into more matters requiring attention?   Or, at least that’s what’s happened here.   So, I am, and continue to be busy with all this.

  1. My sympathies. We had a terrible run for years and years during which time a major appliance always broke down at either Christmas or Thanksgiving. I get it.

    1. I had to go the appliance route beginning the year my husband died. AlwYs something it seems. Keeps us on our toes.

    1. Have power now with long overdue new system, but other different matters yet to address, so getting to know different service people. A/C & furnace serviced so far which I had planned to do anyway and no major problems there. More fun!

    2. It seems so overwhelming as we age and are alone. I nearly lost my mind with one thing after another.

I totally get it my friend. One thing at a time. Luke a mantra.

  3. What thoughtful neighbors!! No power is a challenge but glad you are getting some relief. As I try to do, just handle one crash at a time.

    1. Am down to what I think is two more projects — others long term, like my lax downsizing effort since I put no time deadline on myself but probably should.

  5. As my father used to say, "Cheer up, they told me. Things could be worse. So I cheered up, and sure enough -- things got worse!" Of course, he usually said that will a wry smile -- I hope you're still smiling through all this, too!

    1. Oh yes, my spirits are high and I’m in good humor — enjoying a few wry laughs at the irony of It all, ‘cause could, indeed, be worse. Love what your father used to say — the price of being cheerful (?) — it sure has applied so far in this case.

  6. Thanksgiving has never caught on in Northern Ireland (despite the strong religious tradition), though Halloween is now a big thing and widely enjoyed.

I hope you sort out your burgeoning domestic problems asap!

    1. Thanksgiving for U.S. celebrates events that occurred here between Pilgrims to this land and Native American Indians. Other countries would likely formulate their own reasons or stories for such a celebration, but could be as simple as just giving thanks for what we have. That may occur, more or less, in relation to other celebrations.

Yes, my house issues are slowly diminishing though a couple major ones are still awaiting resolution.

  7. "Have you ever noticed that house issues usually occur at the end of a week, on a weekend and/or around a holiday...." Not only that, minor health issues appear on Friday night, or Saturday, leaving one in a dither over whether medical attention is required.

    1. So true — glad you made the point ‘cause I’ve had that experience too often.

  8. I love the fact that it was young people that thought to share their Thanksgiving meal with you. It speaks well for our future and is sorely needed to offset the glum atmosphere that pervades our country now.

    1. The gals did this last year on a holiday, too. I had been able to corral their dog when he got out of their yard once while they were at work. There have been other interactions as we and others look after one another in our neighborhood.
